The news never stops at Comic-Con 2016 as it was just announced that “The Woods”, a horror film teased earlier this year, is actually Blair Witch, a sequel that’s been long overdue since the original The Blair Witch Project came out in 1999. Yes we know, there was a sequel, but it was awful and not technically a “found footage” film.
Here’s the latest trailer:
As you can see, it’s shot in the same found footage style that the original made famous, but with found footage films so over-saturated in the film market today, what will make this one stand apart? While that remains to be seen for the general public, early reviews of the film have been very favorable.
One of the reviewer quotes from the trailer say “One of the scariest films ever made”, to which I replied “HA! Nothing is as scary as The Exorcist.”
Interestingly enough, an early review of the film by Bloody Disgusting states:
” ‘Blair Witch’ is that game-changer horror fans desperately have been waiting for. It will usher in a new breed of genre films that are targeted at creating an emotional experience above all else. “Scary” is probably an understatement as this may just be the first film since ‘The Exorcist’ that will leave younger audiences scarred for life.”
That’s a very bold statement, especially considering every time some reviewer says “It’s the scariest movie of all time!” it never is. I guess we’ll find out this September.
