Director James Gunn has recently announced in a Facebook video that production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has officially wrapped.
He also confirmed he’ll be bringing the movie — and the cast — to the San Diego Comic-Con next month. Okay that’s cool, but what else do you need to know about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?
Not a whole lot is known about the story so far, other than the adventure continues for the team as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. So the search for Star-Lord’s dad will play a big part in plot, but the big reveal of who the dad is won’t be what the entire movie is about.
Vol. 2 was officially announced at Comic-Con International in 2014, before the theatrical release of the first film.
Characters & Casting
All the original cast members that you know and love from the first Guardians of the Galaxy are returning, plus a handful of new characters.
This marks the first time Stallone and Russell have starred in a film together since 1989’s Tango & Cash. Stallone’s character hasn’t been revealed yet, but Russell is playing Peter Quill, Chris Pratt‘s half human/half alien father.
Nathan Fillion will be playing Simon Williams, also known in the Marvel Universe as Wonder Man. According to Marvel lore he is an ally to the Guardians and will most likely be joining their team in some capacity.
Actress Pom Klementieff plays a character named Mantis, a powerful warrior trained by the Kree.
Principal photography began in February 2016 and wrapped June 2016.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017.
In the follow up to the smash hit Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) true parentage.
