Clay (Andrew McCarthy) comes home to Los Angeles after his first semester of college to find his former girlfriend (Jami Gertz) and old childhood buddy (Robert Downey Jr.) have begun to abuse cocaine. He tries to help them get sober, but has to contend with the callous dealer (James Spader) they’re indebted to.
